They decide to change their name and record a new album with an entirely new producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begins an extensive tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during the recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
